Won't it splinter like a regular stick?
Won't it splinter like a regular stick?
It's the first thing every owner asks — and it makes sense. Every stick you've picked up in a park snaps into sharp, rigid shards.
Coffee wood is a completely different material. Its fibers are tightly interlocked along the grain, so under bite pressure they separate lengthwise into soft, hair-like strands — not across the grain into sharp splinters. Pick up a frayed piece and you'll see it immediately: it looks like the end of a natural bristle brush. You can crumble it between your fingers.
Compare that to the hard, translucent shavings that come off a nylon chew — fragments that can't be digested and don't break down inside your dog. The soft fibers on your floor after a coffee wood session are the safety mechanism working exactly as intended.
What if my dog swallows a piece?
What if my dog swallows a piece?
The fibers that come off during chewing are soft cellulose — the same type of plant fiber found in vegetables your dog already eats. In small amounts, they pass through the digestive system naturally.
This is fundamentally different from nylon or plastic chews, where swallowed fragments can't be dissolved by stomach acid. Those fragments don't break down. They can sit in the gut and accumulate over time — potentially leading to vomiting, blockages, or emergency surgery that costs thousands.
As with any chew, we recommend supervising your dog and removing the chew once it's worn down small enough to fit entirely inside their mouth.
Does coffee wood contain caffeine?
Does coffee wood contain caffeine?
No. Zero caffeine.
Caffeine exists only in the coffee bean, fruit, and leaves — never in the trunk or root wood. A coffee wood chew contains no more caffeine than an oak branch contains acorns. Same species of plant, completely different part of it.
Your dog is chewing pure, inert wood fiber. No stimulants, no additives, no artificial flavours. Just wood.
How long does it last?
How long does it last?
Most dogs get 2–4 weeks of daily chewing from a single chew, depending on size and chewing style. Lighter chewers often get a month or more.
Coffee wood is one of the densest tropical hardwoods available — significantly harder than oak or maple. It resists the initial bite, then gradually yields soft fibers as saliva softens the outer layer. Your dog makes slow, satisfying progress without demolishing it in one sitting.
It will break down — it's designed to. The difference is that when it does, what comes off is soft, digestible plant fiber instead of hard plastic fragments that can build up in your dog's stomach over months of chewing.
Which size should I get?
Which size should I get?
Choose based on your dog's weight:
- Small: Dogs under 5kg
- Medium: Dogs 5–15kg
- Large: Dogs 15–25kg
- Extra Large: Dogs 25kg+
When in doubt, always size up. A slightly larger chew is the safer choice — it gives your dog more surface to work on and can't be swallowed whole. A chew that's too small wears down into a choking hazard faster.
If your dog is between sizes or is a particularly strong chewer, go with the next size up. It lasts longer and gives you more peace of mind.

"My Girl Finally Has a Chew That Won't Build Up in Her Gut - My Vet Is In Love!"

So I posted here a few weeks ago after my girl threw up pieces of her nylon chew. Vet said she was fine but told me to stop giving her anything synthetic. Someone in the comments mentioned coffee wood and I’d honestly never heard of it. She’s been obsessed for about 3 weeks now. It just frays into these soft little fibres instead of breaking into hard chunks. Wish I’d found this two years ago instead of letting her chew on plastic 🤦♀️
Random but does anyone else feel so much calmer since switching from nylon? I used to sit there watching him chew like a hawk, listening for that cracking sound, checking for sharp edges every few minutes. Got him a coffee wood chew last month and I genuinely forget he’s even there. The bits that come off are soft enough to crumble in your hand. Such a small thing but chew time is actually relaxing now
update for anyone who saw my post about Luna destroying every chew within 10 minutes — tried a coffee wood stick and we’re on day 12. TWELVE DAYS. Same dog that demolished a yak chew in one sitting. It’s covered in little teeth marks with soft fuzzy bits coming off but it’s still going strong. I’m actually in shock

Everything You Need to Know Before Ditching the Plastic
Is it messy?
Yes — and that's actually a good sign. The soft fibres on your floor are proof the chew is working as intended. Every fibre you vacuum up is bite force that was absorbed by the wood instead of being transferred to your dog's teeth.
Most owners say they'd rather sweep up wood dust than worry about nylon shards sitting in their dog's stomach. A quick vacuum after a chew session is all it takes.
My dog has been on nylon chews for years and is fine — why switch?
Nylon damage is often invisible until it isn't. Micro-fractures build in tooth enamel over months of chewing — they don't show symptoms until a tooth fails. And indigestible nylon fragments don't announce themselves in the gut — they accumulate silently.
"Fine so far" isn't the same as safe. It just means the bill hasn't arrived yet. Veterinary dentists confirm that nylon chews are one of the leading causes of fractured teeth in dogs — and most owners only find out during a routine dental exam, long after the damage started.
How is this different from a stick in the park?
Night and day. Sticks from the park are softwoods — pine, birch, willow — that snap across the grain into sharp, rigid splinters. Coffee wood is one of the densest tropical hardwoods on earth. Its fibres are tightly interlocked and separate lengthwise into soft, hair-like strands under bite pressure.
Park sticks also carry bacteria, mould, pesticide residue, and parasites from the ground. A coffee wood chew is cleaned, dried, and cured — just the wood, with none of the risk.
Why does it cost more than a nylon chew?
A nylon chew is $8–$15 upfront. But factor in how quickly they wear down, the invisible dental damage they cause over time, and what a single cracked tooth or blockage costs at the vet — and the maths changes fast.
This chew lasts 2–4 weeks of daily use and produces only soft, digestible fibres when it breaks down. You're not paying more for a chew. You're paying less for peace of mind.

April 2026Lauren P.Verified BuyerFinally stopped finding plastic in his poopI didn’t even realise how much nylon my dog was actually swallowing until I switched. We’d been using nylon bones for two years and I just assumed the small pieces that came off were fine. When I started finding soft wood fibres instead of hard plastic shavings, it really hit me what I’d been letting him chew on. He loves it just as much and I’m not anxiously checking his stool anymore.BrewChew™ Coffee Wood Chew

March 2026Hannah L.Verified BuyerSkeptical but my vet actually recommended itI mentioned to my vet that I was looking at coffee wood chews and fully expected her to talk me out of it. Instead she said she’d been recommending them to clients with heavy chewers. That sold me more than anything on the website. Bella’s been on hers for about three weeks and the fibres that come off are genuinely soft — nothing like the sharp edges on her old nylon bones.BrewChew™ Coffee Wood Chew

May 2026James R.Verified BuyerDay 18 and countingMy kelpie destroys everything. Rope toys last minutes. Rubber toys maybe a day. Even the ‘indestructible’ ones from the pet shop are done within a week. This chew is on day 18 of daily use and it’s still going. Yes it’s got teeth marks all over it and there’s some fuzzy bits, but it’s structurally intact. Genuinely impressed.BrewChew™ Coffee Wood Chew

April 2026Nicole S.Verified BuyerThe mess is nothing compared to the peace of mindDo you need to vacuum? Yes. Are there little wood fibres on the carpet? Also yes. Do I care? Absolutely not. I used to sit there watching my dog chew her nylon bone with my stomach in knots, waiting for something bad to happen. Now she chews, I get on with my evening, and the worst thing I deal with is running the vacuum. I’ll take that trade every single time.BrewChew™ Coffee Wood Chew
-
March 2026Michelle T.Verified BuyerBought for one dog, had to order for all threeOrdered one for our GSD because he’s the heavy chewer. Within two days the other two were trying to steal it so I had to get them their own. All three dogs love them. The fact that it’s just wood and nothing else makes me feel so much better about leaving them to it. Already on our second round.BrewChew™ Coffee Wood Chew
-
February 2026Tom B.Verified BuyerWas worried about the caffeine thingI’ll be honest, my first reaction was — coffee? Isn’t that toxic for dogs? Did some reading and caffeine is only in the beans and leaves, not the wood. Makes sense when you think about it but it’s not obvious from the name. Once I got past that it’s been great. Solid chew, lasts well, and my dog goes straight for it every morning.BrewChew™ Coffee Wood Chew
-
April 2026Dave M.Verified BuyerNo more cracked teethOur staffie cracked two molars on antlers over the past three years. Two separate incidents, two vet bills. Switched to coffee wood about four months ago and his last dental check came back completely clean. The chew gives enough resistance to keep him interested but it yields before his teeth do. That’s all I wanted.BrewChew™ Coffee Wood Chew
-
May 2026Kate W.Verified BuyerBetter than antlers. Way better. We went through the antler phase like everyone else. Seemed natural, seemed safe. Then our vet showed us micro-fractures on our dog’s back teeth during a routine cleaning. Switched to coffee wood and haven’t looked back. It satisfies the same chewing urge without the rock-hard surface that damages enamel. Wish we’d known sooner.BrewChew™ Coffee Wood Chew
-
March 2026Amy C.Verified BuyerGot the wrong size first timeFirst order I went with medium for my 22kg dog and it was a bit small — she got through it faster than expected. Sized up to large on the second order and it’s perfect. Lasts much longer and she can’t get her mouth around the whole thing. Lesson learned: size up if you’re on the border. The chew itself is great though.BrewChew™ Coffee Wood Chew
-
April 2026Siobhan K.Verified BuyerOur puppy’s furniture is finally safeOur 6-month-old collie was destroying the house. Skirting boards, table legs, shoes — nothing was safe. A friend recommended coffee wood and within a day he was redirecting all that energy onto the chew instead. It’s been three weeks and he still goes back to it every day. The skirting boards are grateful.BrewChew™ Coffee Wood Chew
-
May 2026Jessica H.Verified BuyerThird order nowThis is my third order. That should tell you everything really. My golden retriever goes through one every 3-4 weeks with daily chewing, which is way longer than anything else we’ve tried. The fibres that come off are soft and I’ve never once worried about them. It’s just become part of our routine now.BrewChew™ Coffee Wood Chew
-
February 2026Sarah N.Verified BuyerI don’t hover anymoreI used to sit next to my dog the entire time she was chewing. Watching, checking, listening for that awful cracking sound nylon makes. It was exhausting. With this I actually leave the room. I can hear her chewing from the kitchen and I don’t feel that knot in my stomach. Sounds like a small thing but if you’ve been there, you know.BrewChew™ Coffee Wood Chew
-
April 2026Chris D.Verified BuyerVet checked his teeth — all clearTook our boxer for his annual dental last week and mentioned we’d switched to coffee wood about five months ago. Vet said his teeth looked great — no new fractures, no unusual wear. Compared to what his teeth looked like when he was on nylon, it’s a noticeable difference. She actually asked me for the brand name.BrewChew™ Coffee Wood Chew
-
March 2026Ryan F.Verified BuyerGenuinely lasts. Not just marketing.I’ve seen ‘long-lasting’ on so many chew packages that the words mean nothing to me anymore. This one actually delivers. My pit mix has been working on the same chew for almost three weeks and he chews hard every single day. It’s wearing down gradually — you can see the progress — but it’s not falling apart. First time a chew has actually matched the claim.BrewChew™ Coffee Wood Chew
-
May 2026Steve G.Verified BuyerMy lab goes through everything — except thisTwo-year-old lab. He’s destroyed every single toy and chew we’ve ever bought him, usually within the hour. Ropes, rubber, nylon, you name it. This is the first chew that’s lasted more than a single session. We’re on week two and he still takes it to his bed every night. The soft fraying keeps him interested because he’s making progress without demolishing it.BrewChew™ Coffee Wood Chew
-
April 2026Megan A.Verified BuyerThe fraying is actually satisfying to seeI wasn’t sure what to expect but seeing the chew fray into these soft little threads instead of cracking or snapping made me immediately feel better about giving it to her. You can actually see how the wood separates — it’s nothing like a stick breaking. The bits that come off crumble between your fingers. It just feels safe in a way that nylon never did.BrewChew™ Coffee Wood Chew
-
February 2026Danielle R.Verified BuyerSwitched after an $1,800 vet billMy dog fractured a molar on a nylon chew. $1,800 for the extraction. The vet said it happens all the time and asked what he’d been chewing on. I felt awful — I’d been giving him that chew every single day thinking I was doing something good for his teeth. Switched to coffee wood that same week and haven’t looked back. Never again.BrewChew™ Coffee Wood Chew
-
March 2026Pauline H.Verified BuyerPerfect for my older girlMy 9-year-old border collie still loves to chew but I was always worried about her teeth as she’s getting on. This is firm enough to keep her interested but soft enough that it gives way before her teeth do. She takes her time with it and the fibres that come off are tiny and soft. Ideal for a senior dog who still wants to chew.BrewChew™ Coffee Wood Chew
-
April 2026Matt J.Verified BuyerA bit messy but honestly worth itNot going to lie, it does leave wood fibres on the floor. If you’ve got carpet it’s a vacuum job afterwards. But the trade-off is a chew that doesn’t crack teeth and doesn’t leave indigestible plastic in your dog’s gut. I’ll happily run the hoover for that. Just give it to them on a hard floor if you want easier cleanup.BrewChew™ Coffee Wood Chew
-
May 2026Lisa M.Verified BuyerWish I’d found this years agoWe’ve been through nylon bones, antlers, yak chews, bully sticks — the lot. Every single one had a problem. Too hard, too expensive, gone too fast, or made him sick. This is the first chew that ticks every box. It lasts, it’s safe, he loves it, and I don’t worry. I just wish I’d found it before spending hundreds on everything else.BrewChew™ Coffee Wood Chew
